Reasons why XELIOS artificial solar lighting is adopted for color evaluations of building interior materials

Artificial solar lighting capable of detecting color discrepancies in interior materials such as wallpaper and flooring

The interiors of detached houses and condominiums are becoming increasingly diverse. Both housing manufacturers and condominium developers have adopted systems to meet the diverse needs of their customers, such as creating a Southeast Asian-style living room, a dining room designed to accommodate Scandinavian furniture, a comfortable Japanese-style interior, or a minimalist, inorganic room with no sense of lived-in feeling.
Furniture is a key component of a room, and the atmosphere of the room changes depending on the furniture chosen But whether the furniture chosen matches the room depends on the interior design. The colors of the walls, ceiling, floor, doors, and fittings are all very important. This also applies to renovations. The interior can be designed to match the furniture and appliances that customers already own.

All of these interior materials are industrial products. Wallpaper, flooring materials, and the surfaces of fittings are mostly made by printing.
For example, most flooring materials are produced in factories and then transported to sites to be installed in the floors. In the case of condominiums, flooring materials of the same color are installed in multiple rooms, and since they are produced in large quantities, ink is sometimes replenished during the production process. When replenishing, there may be a color difference between the old ink and the newly replenished ink. Old ink may become slightly discolored due to oxidation, and differences can also occur between lots even when inks are from the same ink manufacturer. Therefore, color differences due to lot variations can occur not only in flooring materials but also in many other industrial products. If the flooring material has a pattern like wood grain, a slight color difference may not be an issue, but if the material is a solid color, the color difference may result in complaints.

With artificial solar lighting, it is possible to reduce complaints caused by color discrepancies in interior materials

With wallpaper, even more attention must be paid to color discrepancies than with flooring materials. This is because wallpaper is often not patterned, but is mostly solid-colored. There are also many designs that look like they are woven with threads, but since they are basically single-colored, it becomes very noticeable if the colors of adjacent wallpaper are different.

Color management of interior building materials is necessary not only at the time of factory shipment but also during installation. Of course, these materials are produced in the factory based on standard color samples, so I don’t think there will be any color differences (color deviations) that exceed the standard values. However, just because the color difference is within standard values, that does not mean it is acceptable. In the actual setting, the appearance of wallpaper or flooring materials installed must look the same next to each other. But items that look clearly different when you actually look at them side by side even though their color differences are within standard values are surprisingly common. I believe proper color management is necessary, as it affects not only the reputation of developers but also that of contractors.

Artificial solar lighting is ideal for these sort of inspections, as it is able to faithfully represent the actual colors of objects!

If you want to inspect only a part of the product rather than the whole, the XELIOS-100W Series is recommended. If you want to irradiate and inspect the entire product, or if you want to inspect not only the color but also scratches and other defects, the XELIOS-500W Series is recommended. Additionally, if you are inspecting color at a construction site, the handheld XELIOS-iO is very convenient and highly effective when matching colors at the seam sections, as mentioned above.
